BHP provides affordable housing that enhances the lives of many Boulder residents. The programs offered by the BHP Resident Services Division is designed to maximize the quality of life for the residents living at BHP properties by addressing their most pressing needs. Local partnerships with agencies along with the grant and non-profit fundraising activities of this division helps to provide outreach, support and expansion of needed services for low income families, the elderly and the disabled.

In partnership with many award winning local human service agencies the BHP Resident Services Division includes staff members that office or circulate between housing sites to provide and monitor the following services: Service Coordination BHP staff offers personal interviews and office hours to help residents’ secure needed benefits, assess individual service needs and brings in local resources to address community and individual needs.

Walnut Place Stay at Home Program

A HUD funded program Resident Opportunity for Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) provides home health care support to the frail elderly, along with health, recruitment of community volunteers and exercise programming to promote wellness and independent living.

After School Programming at
Kalmia and Broadway Family Sites

The I Have a Dream Foundation of Boulder County, a private non-profit , provides after- school academic and social development support for low-income children. Upon graduation form high school, children in the IHAD program will receive tuition assistance scholarships for college. The Kalmia and Broadway Dreamers represent over 60, mostly Latino, public housing children between the ages of 8 and 18.

Personal Investment Enterprise (PIE)

Traditional known as an Individual Development Account (IDA) Program, the Boulder Community Action program provides and offers to build wealth and assets for families in BHP housing. This matched saving account program and required financial literacy course helps families to save towards buying a home, seek a post-secondary education or start a small business.

Mobile Food Pantry

This is a monthly food distribution program organized and delivered by Community Food Share. This distribution occurs, by design, on Saturdays when other sources are not available. The clients are largely "working poor" families and unable to go to our partner agencies during the week.

Site # 1; the 4th Saturday of every month at the Boulder Housing Partners parking lot (just south of the N. Boulder Recreation Center on Broadway in the City of Boulder) from 10-11AM.

Update for 2005

Staff is pleased to announce the Midge Korczak Scholarship at the University of Colorado is available to a CU student who has lived in Section 8, public, or subsidized housing units for at least two years. The student must be admitted to CU's College of Arts and Sciences. There are no financial needs or academic merit restrictions. The Korczak Scholarship is valued at $3,400 for the 2005-2006 academic school year and may be renewed through an annual competitive application process. The selection committee will follow CU's policy of non-discrimination.

Application for the Midge Korczak Scholarship can be made by submitting the following materials: a cover letter of application, a copy of a brief essay recently written (any topic), one letter of support from a high-school teacher or counselor, and one letter from the Boulder City or Boulder County Housing Authority confirming residence in Section 8, public, or subsidized housing for at least two years prior to attending CU. Mail this material in a single packet to Richard H. Sweetman, Faculty Director of A&S Scholarships, Coordinator for the M. Korczak Selection Committee, U. of Colorado at Boulder, SLHS, Campus Box 409 UCB, Boulder, Colorado 80309-0409 or fax everything to him at 303-492-3274. The deadline for the receipt of all materials is May 10, 2005.

Resident Representative Council (RRC) Elections

The RRC meet on March 9, 2004 to nominate officers for the coming year. The RRC election will take place at the annual meeting of the RRC on April 13th, 2005 at Walnut Place. In accordance with City of Boulder Ordinance No. 5963 (1998), the RRC President will service his or her term (two years) as the BHP Resident Commissioner.
